Angono's Salubong.
Angono is in province of Rizal and it is located 30km East of Manila. Every Easter Sunday the people of Angono celebrate the Salubong in a grand way.
Alas I was stuck in the middle of a huge crowd and I couldn't move around to take pictures of everything that took place. Unlike my other series this will only give you an impression of what is going on.
The word salubong refers to the act of meeting someone who is arriving. As the word connotes, the celebration is a re-enactment of the first meeting of Christ and his mother, Mary.
The salubong is a celebration which actually has its roots in Ignatian spirituality. In Ignatius’ personal intimacy with Jesus and devotion to His Mother Mary, he noticed Sacred Scripture never mentions Jesus appearing to his grieving mother after his resurrection. But instead of being troubled by this, he argued that any person with right reason and a modicum of insight would understand that Jesus could not have done otherwise than appear first to his mother after his Resurrection. Out of this insight, came the popular devotion in the Philippines of the salubong. When Jesus meets his mother, her veil of sadness is removed by an angel of the Lord. She is elated in his life; he is gladdened in her elation. And this is the doctrinal content of the Philippine devotion.

She certainly makes a lovely angel.

I've never been able to watch the Salubong because it's early in the morning. But when I was young, my father would take me to the dress rehearsal the night before.
The angel here is real cute (^_^) The thick make-up must be for the stage lights and cameras; otherwise, it would really be off.

When I was still in the province (read: with parents around) I always attend the Salubong even though this is usually done early in the morning, like 4am so that kinda suck hehe but I like it..pretty symbolic.
About the pic, she's a pretty girl but yeah..too much make up especially the lipstick :)
